Nepal: Trekking

Trekking

If there is one thing Nepal is known for, it is epic trekking. Excursions for as little as one day or as long as a few months can be catered to. Depending upon your skillset and passions, Backpacker Concierge can recommend the most suitable treks and the best times.

Recommended Minimums:
Annapurna – 3 nights
Everest Base Camp – 12 nights
Hilltribes – 1 night
+ Beyond – 5 nights

Annapurna

Stretched over 2,600 square kilometers, Annapurna is home to a variety of diverse cultures, tribes, and castes. As you pass through the villages you will come into contact with the Gurungs and Magars famous for their exploits in the Gurkha Army, the Newars who are known for their keep business skills, in addition to the Tibetans, Manangis, and others.

Circuit Trek – The classic 20-day trek that combines beautiful landscapes and diverse culture. This is a rewarding journey through stunning areas.

Poon Hill Trek – Take a week to trek the Anapurna foothills and explore the Gurung villages. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Annapurna range.

Sanctuary Trek – An extraordinary medium-length trek that takes you to the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary in just a few days. Here, you will enjoy 360-degree views of the highest peaks. Some say these are the best views in Nepal!

Everest Base Camp

Since Sir Edmund Hilary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay summited in 1953, many travelers have journeyed to ‘The Land of the Sherpa’ to experience a piece of this achievement, making it one of the most famous trekking destinations in the world.

This trek is for the sound of mind and body, as it takes you to remote regions at very high altitudes (5545m). You will pass through small villages along the way, allowing you to experience the local culture and marvel at the incredible views of Khumbu Glacier, Everest, and Nuptse.

Make this experience even more special and let us help you develop a fundraising scheme per meter climbed connected with a specific Nepali cause. The money will be managed by the Karma Foundation and could support the Save the Children partner project directly, or other worthwhile causes.

Hilltribes

Get off the beaten path and climb high into the hills where you have the chance to experience Nepal’s diversity at its best. Many of our treks journey through Gurung, Magar, and Chapang ethnic regions and can be accomplished over the course of one day or one week.

Several of the villages are linked by homestay opportunities where you will have the chance to immerse yourself in the local culture, through food and customs.

Walk through emerald green fields, over ridges, and through rivers to reach some of the most remote and stunning villages in the world. Nepal is full of rugged hilltribe trekking opportunities appropriate for a variety of skillsets and desired durations.

+ Beyond

Lo Manthang – the name itself conjures up a sense of mystique! You will journey into Upper Mustang where you will walk its villages, meets the locals, and immerse yourself in the local culture.

Few travelers journey to this region, primarily due to the high permit costs, but this means the area is relatively untouched and affords you the opportunity to experience something very few people in the world have.

No words can accurately describe Upper Mustang. You will need to come and see for yourself!
