Cooking Classes
Immerse yourself in Turkish culture and culinary tradition while learning how to create the country’s most authentic dishes.
One-off cooking classes take place all across the country and feature specialties from each region. Depending upon your preferences, some classes may start with a trip to the farmer’s market where the day’s ingredients will be purchased. Other classes are purely demonstration only without a hands-on element. Multi-day programs and culinary retreats are available upon request.
Half-day Turkish cooking classes start at $80 USD per person.
Farms + Hotels
What can farms and hotels have in common? Honest food!
Backpacker Concierge has its finger on the culinary pulse of Turkey and is excited to offer assistance with the following:
- Volunteering on organic farms and sharing methods of more sustainable living
- Visiting ecological farms and vineyards where you will learn ancient wine making techniques and enjoy a meal with the owners
- Stay in secluded guesthouses and hotels that feature some of the most delicious locally sourced meals we have ever tasted.
Tasting Walks
The Greeks, Arabs, and Persians all passed through Turkey, leaving behind an array of flavors that was left to stew for centuries. The result is a rich, layered cuisine that can be better understood while on a walking tour through some of Istanbul’s most vibrant neighborhoods.
On either a shared or private tour, you may be introduced to Anatolian cheeses, sip sumac juice, interact with street food vendors and try their delicacies, visit specialty food stores and local markets, sample Chechen pastries, and sit down to an authentic Turkish meal. All the while learning about the country’s culinary history and discussing what the future holds for the modern Turkish kitchen.
Guided Turkish Tasting Walks start at $80 USD per person. The average walk is $125 USD per person. The price of food is often included in the tour.
